Jewelry holds an inherent beauty that captivates observers, imbued with the maker's passion.

Today, I'd like to talk about one such piece we created: the "440 Basic - Loaf Ring."

 

There's something we deeply value when creating jewelry.

It's that the form itself must be something we find "beautiful."

While perceptions of beauty differ from person to person, our standard is whether we, as creators, feel a tremor in our hearts.

This is our benchmark.

 

For example, there are many elements like the ring's width, thickness, angle, polishing, and the arrangement and balance of gemstones, none of which can be compromised.

As fellow creators might agree, the simpler the design, the harder it is to perfect.

Jewelry can also enhance a design by incorporating the beauty of gemstones or adding ornamentation.

However, unlike "additive" designs that incorporate embellishments, "subtractive" designs that deliberately strip away elements leave no room for deception.

That's why we must approach them without any compromise.

 

Just like the "Mon Ring" I introduced recently, the "440 Basic - Loaf Ring" I'm presenting today is a piece born from this "aesthetic of subtraction."

 

The "440 Basic - Loaf Ring" is crafted entirely from gold, without any gemstones.

However, its design is packed with our aesthetic.

It's a piece born from the desire to create a simple yet deeply resonant design.

We envision this ring adorning the hands of adults who have experienced life's ups and downs.

It's not for young, slender, delicate fingers, but rather suits hands that have matured through work, raising children, and various life experiences.

We hope such individuals will enjoy this ring.

 

The beauty and brilliance of gemstones can bring comfort and strength.

However, with the "440 Basic - Loaf Ring," we aimed for a design that can be worn without stress, not just on special occasions, but also in the office or while doing household chores.

It's designed to easily complement any jewelry or fashion, yet still possess a subtle hint of individuality.

 

While I was conceptualizing the design, President Komiyama casually showed me a plump, sugarloaf-cut ruby, saying, "I got some good loose stones."

The sugarloaf cut is characterized by its plump roundness, and I was drawn to its charming shape, which made me wonder, "Could I express this shape in gold?"

What if I connected the sugarloaf cut shapes, resembling sugar lumps, in gold?

In Edo period Japan, sugar was extremely precious and treated like medicine.

I thought that if I could create a piece of jewelry that could be worn like an amulet of such sugar, it would become a strong companion, and thus the "440 Basic - Loaf Ring" was born.

Each "loaf" of the "440 Basic - Loaf Ring" is meticulously polished to ensure that its luster shifts with every angle of light.

As a result, the ring reveals a new expression every time it's worn.

It possesses a mysterious charm, like kindness with an edge.

I also want to draw attention to the openwork pattern on the inside of the ring.

We applied a beautiful, flawless design to the inside of the ring, incorporating stars with the hope that it will shine forever.

While simple, it's a ring that won't bore you and that you'll want to wear every day.
