Hello, I'm Omori, the designer.
Today, I'd like to share a reform story that began with a request to "reform a tennis bracelet into a bangle."
Actually, a "very lovely" tennis bracelet
The customer brought in a platinum tennis bracelet with a total of 3 carats of diamonds continuously set around it.
It seemed they had enjoyed it sufficiently, and both the quality and condition of the stones were excellent. It truly was a piece of jewelry worthy of being called a "classic staple."
However, the customer said,
"Even after repairing the clasp several times, it still loosens... I'm afraid I'll lose it, so I haven't been wearing it recently."
In other words, the reason for this reform was not only about design but also about "reconsidering practicality."
The request was "I want it to be a bangle"
Although buying a new bangle would be an option, they wanted to make use of this bracelet they already owned—
that was the sentiment behind their consultation.
Since bangles have a fixed shape, they are easier to put on and take off than tennis bracelets, reducing concerns about the clasp.
Furthermore, the customer also felt that by transforming it into a cool and modern piece, it would become more suitable for everyday wear.
Remove the stones and make new? Or keep as is?
It is possible to remove each diamond and create something entirely new.
However,
-
The size and number of diamonds are different from ready-made products.
-
Each setting would need to be remade to fit the individual diamonds.
Considering these points, including time and cost, we wondered if this was truly the best approach.
After much discussion with the customer, the final decision was—
"to reform the existing tennis bracelet into a bangle while keeping it as is."

A bangle that compromises neither practicality nor beauty
Based on the existing tennis bracelet, we focused on the following points:
-
Determining the width and curve to fit the customer's wrist.
-
Reinforcing the base for both flexibility and strength.
-
Using K18 white gold for increased durability while harmonizing beautifully with the existing platinum setting.
The finished bangle has a commanding presence, as if it had always been this way.
Inside, the soldered joint between the K18 white gold base and the existing platinum setting is beautifully finished, subtly showcasing the craftsmanship.

Reform is not just about "fixing"
When it comes to jewelry reform, many might imagine "significantly changing the design."
However, as in this case, reforming to "maintain existing appeal and fit comfortably" is also a wonderful option.
"It's hard to use as is."
"But I love the stones and the design."
This became a case study I truly want to share with those who have such concerns.
My heartfelt thanks to the customer who consulted with us.
Please look forward to the next blog post.
