[Reform] A brown diamond leaf ring bloomed from two rings

440showroom-ジュエリーリフォーム-ブラウンダイヤモンド-1.4ct-リーフリング-植物モチーフ-K18ゴールド-東京アトリエ

Hello there.
I'm Omori, the designer.

Today, I'd like to share a reform story
about transforming inherited jewelry into a single leaf motif ring.

Two rings inherited from my mother

The customer brought in

  • a 0.24ct diamond ring with a claw setting
  • a voluminous ring with a large 1.4ct brown diamond surrounded by round and baguette cut diamonds

These were the two rings.

"These are rings I received from my mother, but they don't suit me as they are.
What should I do?"

First, the customer looked at the jewelry in the showcase, and what caught her eye was a gorgeous leaf motif ring.

"Can you create something with this kind of feel?"

This single question gave us a clear direction for the reform.

What we valued in the design

The ring that caught her eye had a design with many marquise-cut diamonds arranged to form a leaf.

Her request this time was to:

  • Feature the 1.4ct brown diamond as the centerpiece
  • Ensure the 0.24ct diamond also shines brightly
  • Utilize as many of the surrounding melee diamonds as possible

However, if we were to use all the baguette-cut diamonds from the original brown diamond ring, it would create a classical and opulent impression that would be too far from the customer's style.

Therefore, this time, we proposed not to use the baguette diamonds.

Considering the gemstones, the design, and whether she would genuinely want to wear it every day, we took custody of the rings, envisioning their final form.

Time spent creating together with a distant customer

The customer lives in Osaka.

She made the trip to Hanzomon to coincide with her business trips to Tokyo, which happen every few months, so it took us about a year to finalize the design.

During that time, we exchanged design sketches and ideas via LINE, gradually refining the design with suggestions such as:

  • "Let's try reducing the number of leaves a bit more."
  • "Let's enclose the brown diamond within a single leaf."

A new ring that gently wraps around the finger

The finished ring has a three-dimensional form with leaves boldly wrapping around the finger from the second to the third joint.

  • A 1.4ct brown diamond is at the center of the largest leaf.
  • Small leaves formed by melee diamonds flow in a continuous line around it.
  • At the tip of the opposite leaf, a 0.24ct diamond sparkles.

By deliberately not making the ring a complete circle and leaving space that seems to contain air, it gives a light impression despite its volume.

Each diamond is positioned so it has its own place.

Delivery Day: A new story inherited from a mother

When she visited us during her business trip to Tokyo and we showed her the finished ring,

"It's even more beautiful than I imagined!"

Her face lit up with a bright smile.

"I'll be visiting my parents soon, so I'll show it to my mother then."

She said that and returned to Osaka with the ring.

The baguette diamonds from the original brown diamond ring are still in our keeping so they can be used for the next reform.

While discussing, "Let's think about a new design from here," we also pondered future stories.

Like new buds growing

Her repeated visits from afar.

Her entrusting us with her precious jewelry.

And her joy in wearing the new ring.

I am deeply grateful for each and every one of these.

May the two rings inherited from her mother
now weave a new story on her finger.
