"How much can the design be changed?"
I often hear such questions from people considering a remodel. I think our client this time also had a bit of that feeling at first.
An oval-cut sapphire ring, inherited from her mother-in-law.
It had a classic setting, firmly embracing the stone, giving it a cherished feel, but for her, it felt a bit too heavy for her current style.
She mentioned, "I want something a bit more contemporary."
When considering the design, I first focused on this oval sapphire. The client was concerned about its formal and heavy impression. I wanted to resolve that and make it look lighter. So, I suggested setting it horizontally. Just by doing that, a casual lightness is created. It felt like the stone was breathing freely, and ideas started to expand from there.
I placed the sapphire horizontally in the center of the arm, which had a bold open space. On both sides, I added two lines of diamond eternities.
The contrast between the deep blue and the two sparkling lines. It's precisely because of the negative space that the sapphire's color can truly be the star. I remember thinking, "Ah, this is it," when I saw the finished piece.
Even with the same stone, the impression changes so much. The classical sapphire suddenly takes on a modern look. I feel this is the most interesting part of remodeling every time. Later, she sent us a photo of her wearing it. The sapphire, perfectly integrated into her finger, looked very happy.
