[Reform] Diamond hoop earrings, reborn from three rings

440showroom-ジュエリーリフォーム-ダイヤモンド-フープピアス-K18WG-ホワイトゴールド-東京アトリエ

Hello, I'm Omori, a designer.

Today, I'd like to share a reform story about how three rings were transformed into a pair of hoop earrings.

The three classical rings brought in

The customer brought in three rings, set with diamonds of various cuts, including round and marquise.
The designs had high settings and a classical feel, and had apparently not been worn for a while.

"I want to wear these pieces again, but in a style that suits me now."
With that sentiment, she consulted us about reforming them.

The request was for "hoop earrings"

The customer already had a clear idea of the design she wanted.

"I want them to be hoop earrings."

She said, and even brought along reference photos.
The photos showed hoop earrings made entirely of round-cut diamonds.

However, the rings she brought in had marquise-cut diamonds in addition to round ones.
She wanted to make the most of these marquise cuts as well.

Round on the outside, marquise subtly hidden on the inside

During our discussion, we solidified the design in this direction:

  • Arrange round cuts of roughly similar size on the outer surface.
  • Set the marquise cuts subtly hidden on the inside of the ear.

The result was a pair of striking hoop earrings with a continuous line of round-cut diamonds on the outside.
On the opposite inner side, three marquise cuts subtly peek out on each ear.

The two different shapes, round and marquise, create a contrast,
making for a unique piece that, though simple, brings out the wearer's individuality.

Production carefully advanced, confirming the size

With hoop earrings, even a slight difference in diameter can change the impression and comfort.
At the initial consultation stage, it was difficult to clearly imagine the perfect size, so we
created samples to show the actual diameter and had her try them on her ears for confirmation.

"It's not too small, and the size seems just right to be very useful."

Once the size was decided, we moved on to the main production.
We also paid close attention to sturdy craftsmanship for the stone setting and finishing, so they could be worn safely every day.

In addition, any diamonds that were not used were returned so that they could be used for future reforms or new designs.
Because we are entrusted with precious stones, clearly identifying which stones were used and returning them properly is also a point we value. (※It may be difficult to return small stones or stones that are difficult to remove.)

To "everyday companion" earrings

When the finished hoop earrings were delivered, the customer put them on and looked in the mirror, saying,

"They're exactly as I imagined!"

She showed a very happy expression.

The diamonds that had been dormant as classical rings have now begun to shine again as "companion earrings" that accompany her both in everyday life and on special occasions.
