Today, I'd like to share the story of a simple black star sapphire ring that underwent a transformation. It was reborn into a playful design, with platinum's round luster dancing rhythmically.
"A design that suits the current me"
The consultation this time came from a referral by a client who always entrusts me with their jewelry reforms. I was truly delighted and deeply grateful for their thoughtful gesture of connecting their friend, believing that "440showroom is definitely a place you can trust."
The client, who was visiting for the first time, seemed a little nervous at first, but as we talked more, they gradually smiled as they enjoyed "the process of finding a design that truly reflects them." Witnessing such moments is the greatest joy for me.
What they brought in was a simple black star sapphire ring with small diamonds on both sides.
"I haven't been wearing it much lately... but I really love the stone," was how the reform consultation began.
Their requests were:
- To keep it simple
- A design that doesn't snag, for everyday wear
- To be able to stack it with existing rings
These were the three points.
A new design that highlights the charm of black star sapphire
The appeal of this black star sapphire lies in its "star effect (asterism)," where six rays of light emerge from within the stone when light hits it. The light appearing in the deep black is like a star in the night sky, quietly exuding its presence.
To best showcase this star effect, the stone was placed vertically. We intentionally omitted side stones, allowing the dignified beauty of the black star sapphire to be the star.
For the ring body, round platinum embellishments were rhythmically linked. The luster of the platinum shining within the black serves as an accent, creating a modern and light impression.
A design that can be stacked and worn daily
To allow for seamless stacking with cherished rings, the stone setting was designed slightly higher. The center stone was set using a snag-free bezel setting, creating a durable design suitable for everyday wear.
A ring that is "simple yet has a strong presence" – a piece truly fitting for the client was completed.
A heartwarming message received from the client
Some time after delivery, I received this message:
"I love the ring and wear it all the time! My friends have also complimented it, and I'm so glad I entrusted it to you."
The moment I read those words, my heart warmed. A cherished piece of jewelry transformed into a form that perfectly suits "the current me," bringing a smile to the client's face, and that smile in turn connects to someone else's happiness.
This "chain of happiness" is, I believe, why I put my heart into my work of jewelry reform.
Once again, thank you so much for this wonderful connection.
Being able to materialize a client's "likes" and "current mood" into jewelry is always a great joy for me.
